Grass-roots group calls for Christie to resign

One grass-roots N.J. group is calling for Gov. Chris Christie to resign over the Fort Lee lane closures scandal.

New Jersey Working Families Alliance said on Friday that it has collected over 20,000 signatures on a petition calling for Christie to resign over the George Washington Bridge controversy.

“Either the Governor recklessly abused the powers of his office to punish the constituents of his political enemies, or he is so oblivious to what happens in his office that his closest advisers could have perpetrated the scheme without his knowledge,” said Analilia Mejia, executive director of the Alliance, in a release. “Both possibilities make him unfit for the office he serves, much less the presidency he seeks.”

The Alliance claims the petition signatures include 6,500 from New Jersey and that the petition drive began about 2 p.m. Thursay.
