Embattled by the George Washington Bridge scandal and a new charge by former Port Authority official David Wildstein that he can supply evidence that Gov. Chris Christie knew about the George Washington Bridge lane closures, Christie faces anew tonight the prospect of resigning the governorship.
We do not yet have the edivdence in hand to which Wildstein refers, but if it exists and contradicts the governor’s public statements and Christie were to resign, his departure would mean the ascent to the governor’s office of Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno.
Guadagno has her own troubles, in the aftermath of charges by Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer that the LG muscled her over Hurricane Sandy funds.
The feds have summoned Zimmer to investigate her allegations.
The volatility means Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3) is on high alert in the event that Christie and Guadagno go down.
