Baraka taps Lopez as his North Ward council candidate

Newark Mayoral candidate Ras Baraka announced today that North Ward educator and community leader Luis M. Lopez will be his candidate for City Council in the North Ward.

Lopez is principal of the North Ward’s Roberto Clemente School.

“I am thrilled to receive the support of Ras Baraka and to be part of his grassroots movement to transform Newark,” Lopez said in a statement. “Ras Baraka has proven that he cares about all the people and neighborhoods of Newark. I was withRas last night at a large meeting of East Ward business leaders and saw with my own eyes the enthusiastic support h has gained among leaders of Latino communities throughout Newark. Ras has my strong endorsement.”

“Luis Lopez has already made a huge contribution to education and youth sports in Newark,” said Baraka, noting his ally’s involvement in the Roberto Clemente Youth Baseball League. “His achievements are honored and respected in all of our communities. I am proud to have Luis Lopez on my slate and honored to have his endorsement.”
