In October, when a four-bedroom duplex in the tony 830 Park Avenue went into contract, real estate gossips were all atwitter, speculating as to whether it was actress drew barrymore and her husband Will Kopelman who had made a deal for the co-op unit. Anonymous sources confirmed those speculations last month, and Barrymore fans everywhere breathed sighs of relief as still further rumors suggested that the actress had made it past the building’s co-op board. (Even traditionally stuffy co-ops have become more relaxed in recent years, but we bet Ms. Barrymore would have fared well even in stricter times. She always makes such a nice impression!) And now, if in fact all of the aforementioned rumors were true, Ms. Barrymore and Mr. Kopelman have closed on the apartment, most recently asking $8.3 million, according to the Sotheby’s website; Roger Erickson had the listing.
Recently renovated, the “triple-mint” space features a “loft-like” design, a built-in stereo system and no fewer than three fireplaces. A magisterial living room provides ample entertaining space—so ample, in fact, that it warrants two distinct sitting areas. This suggests to us that the room might be a tad impersonal, perhaps even a little on the cold side. (Might the apartment’s lack of coziness have had something to do with owners Adam Bartos and Mahnaz Ispahani Bartos‘ decision to sell after closing on the duplex just last April?)
But the new owners—if new owners they be—will doubtless pack it to the gills with glamorous so-and-sos in no time. Even if not, one of those three fireplaces ought warm things up a bit. And anyway, there are so many other rooms to choose from! There’s the gallery and the dining room/library (where Ms. Barrymore will no doubt serve up some of her homemade spaghetti and meatballs), the breakfast room, the master bedroom sitting room, the spa bathroom, the dressing room…Well, you get the idea.
Converted from rentals in 1953, 830 Park features handsome prewar detailing, a deeply recessed entrance and a garden—to say nothing of its proximity to Central Park and Museum Mile. As The Post has it, such bold-faced personalities as Jon Bon Jovi, Mick Jagger and Kate Moss have also been spotted hanging about. We wonder whether Ms. Barrymore, who is pregnant with her second child, mightn’t like that friendly co-op board to resume some of its former vigilance. One has to keep a close eye on toddlers with street-fighting men strolling the neighborhood, let alone rockers wanted dead or alive.
