Seriously, I can’t believe it either, but Frieze New York is just around the corner: the third edition of the fair runs on Randall’s Island May 9 through 12. The VIP day is May 8, and if you’re an upper-level VIP you’re going to have the chance to ride in one of the fair’s VIP BMWs, listening to selections from Frieze Sounds, a sound-art program organized by Frieze Projects curator Cecilia Alemani. This year’s commissioned artists are Keren Cytter, Cally Spooner and Hannah Weinberger. Ms. Alemani explained this year’s projects in a release:
Keren Cytter will soothe the visitors by offering a self-hypnosis session; Cally Spooner will intertwine voiceover and stage directions to create an absurd script; and Hannah Weinberger will base her soundtrack on the heartbeat of her own baby.
Sounds exactly what I would like to listen to if I just spent a busy few hours at a premier contemporary art fair. If you’re a lower-level VIP or just a common visitor, you’ll be able to enjoy this relaxing-sounding program at a listening station at the fair and online at friezeprojectsny.org.
