Jay Webber, Assemblyman LD26
Strengths: The party’s consummate conservative rising star, Webber, a former state party chair, has a reputation as one of the best prepared legislators in Trenton.
Weaknesses: He may be too conservative in a general election in New Jersey. His vocal opposition to the Dream Act, for example, could stir up rank and file Latino voters to make a point in dealing him a loss.
Prognosis: Widely viewed as the successor to U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11), Webber appears to have a statewide run in him and the fundraising prowess to be credible.
