Princeton Dems don’t endorse a candidate in CD12 Democratic Primary

PRINCETON – The Princeton Community Democratic Organization (PCDO) tonight collectively decided not to endorse a candidate for Congress in the 12th District Democratic Primary.

Five candidates appealed to the organization tonight: state Sen. Linda Greenstein (D-14), Assemblwoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-15), Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula (D-17), Kingston Plasma Physicist Andrew Zwicker and Hopewell Chemist Frank Gibson.

The organization requires a candidate to get at least 60% to earn its endorsement.

On the first ballot, Watson Coleman received 37 votes, Greenstein 26 votes, Zwicker (who teaches at Princeton University) 12, Chivukula 9 and Gibson 2.

In a runoff between Watson Coleman and Greenstein, the assemblywoman received 54.4% to Greenstein’s 44.7%, resulting in a non-endorsement by the organization.

Princeton is home to 8,000 registered Democrats of a total 148,000 Democrats registered districtwide.
