Because everyone knows rideshare apps and promo codes go hand in hand.

Lyft has partnered with Slickdeals, the crowd-sourced site for deals and coupons, to offer a free ride to new customers.

Download the app, use the promo code SLICKDEALS, and you’re set for a free ride valued up to $50, as long as it’s your first time using the service.

This offer, which lasts until the New Year’s Eve ball drops, is valid in more than 30 cities across the U.S., but sadly not in NYC.

This appears to be Lyft’s latest of many attempts to pull ahead of Uber (remember Happy Hour, purported to be the opposite of surge pricing?). Although Lyft recently earned the top spot in fundraising, when it comes to popularity, they’re still coming in second to Uber, which continues to garner the most downloads from the iTunes store, and still reigns as king of the rideshare apps.

Naturally, using Uber’s own promo code tactic to try to win over the crowd is the way to go. At least Lindsey Lohan and Snoop Dogg aren’t the ones peddling the deal.
