NJDSC South Asian American Caucus announces leaders in 21 counties

At a spring dinner reception Sunday evening, the New Jersey Democratic State Committee’s South Asian American Caucus (SAAC) officially introduced County Directors for each of New Jersey’s 21 counties.

“The South Asian American community is dynamic and vibrant, leading the way to making New Jersey more competitive in the 21st Century economy,” said Democratic Chairman John Currie. “Similarly, the South Asian American Caucus’ County Directors are an impressive group of political activists. I am thankful for their work and that they are focused on advancing core Democratic values of equal opportunity and economic justice, as well as the rights of women, minorities and immigrants.”

Numerous special guests attended, including Assemblymen Raj Mukherji (D-33) and Upendra Chivukula (D-17). SAAC Caucus Co Chairs Satish Poondi and Dr. Khyati Joshi honored Currie with SAAC’2 2014 “visionary award” in appreciation for his leadership in engaging minority communities in the political process.

Currie formally instituted the SAAC earlier this year. SAAC’s goal is to organize, engage and mobilize members of the New Jersey South Asian community in local and statewide politics.
