Vauss shows off countywide alliances at Irvington rally

The rupture of the longtime political alliance between Freeholder L. Bilal Beasley and Irvington Mayor Wayne Smith issued a strengthened relationship between Beasley and his protégé, School Board President Tony Vauss.

With the veteran Beasley at his side, Vauss sharnessed establishment Democratic Party power in Irvington on Saturday as he prepares for a final month of campaigning in his May 13th matchup with Smith.

A source close to Irvington politics says the trouble between Smith and Beasley started when Smith decided to run for Congress in 2012 and didn’t tell Beasley.

Beasley backed eventual winner U.S. Rep. Donald Payne (D-10) and now wants Smith eradicated from City Hall.

Rallying in support of Vauss were Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-28), Assemblyman Tom Giblin (D-34), Assemblyman Ralph Caputo (D-28), Essex County Clerk Chris Durkin, Roselle Mayor Jamel Holley, West Orange Mayor Robert Parisi, Local 55 President Wayne Richardson, and many others.
