They met in grad school when they were assigned the project of designing a dream school. They did, and it exists: Community Roots Charter School in Clinton Hill. Opposite to most NYC charters, the students are diverse and middle-class, with a higher than average concentration of special needs. Instruction is progressive, not drill-and-kill. Demand is enormous: this year, the wait list topped 800 students, for 50 seats total, across the grades.
