PATERSON – Mayor Jose “Joey” Torres tonight again became mayor of Silk City, crushing his opponents on vote by mail ballots and getting over 7,000 total votes.
Torres defeated county party machine-backed Council President Andre Sayegh 930 (38.54%) to 308 (12.76%) on VBMs alone.
The former mayor (2002-2010) returned to run in this election while working as the business administrator in Jackson.
The Democratic Party, including Passaic County Democratic Chairman John Currie and U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-9), threw in with Sayegh and attempted to employ the same instrumentation Pascrell implemented in his successful 2012 Democratic Primary run.
But Torres – running as a renegade in an attempt to outdistance Sayegh and the establishment in ousting incumbent Mayor Jeff Jones, prevailed.
