Derided as “the Boss,” Pascrell becomes target in Paterson mayor’s race

PATERSON – A Youtube video has surfaced in the Paterson mayor’s contest that goes after U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-9) and uses the term “The Boss” to characterize the Italian American congressman.

Pascrell’s office refused comment.

In the video, a voice says, “He’s the boss,” over a black and white picture of Pascrell.

The video refers to his son, Bill Pascrell III, as “the underboss,” and to the Pascrells’ candidate in this contentious mayoral contest, Council President Andre Sayegh, as their “boy.”

The originator of the video, mayoral candidate David Gilmore, made no apologies.

“That’s your interpretation,” he said, when asked if it wasn’t an insensitive characterization.

“That’s what he is,” the candidate added. “It means ‘he’s in charge.’ He’s calling the shots now and after.”

A source close to Pascrell said he is convinced the video will only motivate the congressman’s allies.
