Does anyone embody the contradictory heart of the new Brooklyn more than Jonathan Butler? An Upper East Side native who abandoned his mid-level Wall Street job to found Brownstoner, he went on to harness the borough’s entrepreneurial and creative impulses with hipster markets Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg, along with his partner Eric Demby. Mr. Butler has just celebrated the opening of 1000 Dean, a mixed-use space in Crown Heights.
