Frieze has long since passed, but the New York art game does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. As we noted earlier this week, tonight there are a bounty of nice-sounding openings, including Steel Stillman at Show Room and Kay Rosen at Sikkema Jenkins, and tomorrow White Columns is hosting its annual benefit auction.
But two other important goings-on have since come across our desk that feel important to share. They follow below.
1. Tonight, Friday, May 16, as part of Kerstin Brätsch’s second show Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, Berlin-based macher Mariechen Danz is going to perform at the gallery with Alexander Stolze. The affair, we’re told, “involves a multi-layered dress, sound, and cake.” Have you ever seen a bad performance work involving cake? Didn’t think so. This takes place at 8:30 p.m.
2. And then tomorrow, Saturday, May 17, Robert Longo is going to be giving a tour of his current Metro Pictures exhibition, “Gang of Cosmos,” which features jaw-dropping, gorgeous charcoal drawings of iconic Abstract-Expressionist paintings. The tour starts at 12 p.m., but the gallery is asking visitors to arrive by 11:45 a.m.
We’re looking at a high of 74 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow, folks.
