As principal of the Math and Science Exploratory School, Ms. Gioe pioneered ASD Nest, an intensive instructional program for kids on the autism spectrum. When she discovered that those students didn’t have anywhere to go, she made the ASD Nest program part of Brooklyn Millennium High School. The program graduates its first class this year, and all of the ASD kids are expected to make it. (Citywide, the special education high school graduation rate is about 25 percent).
