High voter turn-out in Newark’s South Ward has the allies of South Ward Councilman Ras Baraka confident heading into the evening hours of the mayoral contest.

Sources close to the campaign have operated under the assumption that high turnout in the South and less than overwhelming numbers in the North would inure to their candidate’s advantage.

Prior to the evening push, evening numbers showed the North Ward voting machines at 5,500 and the South Ward machines at over 8,000.
