Steve Sweeney

In a win for Democrats, the senate president was able to save Justice Stuart Rabner and get Gov. Chris Christie to agree to South Jersey’s Lee Solomon as nominees to the state Supreme Court. Now look for Christie and Sweeney to trade places on this list come budget crunch time.

Nick Sacco

The Hudson County Democratic Organization honored the veteran state senator/mayor at a packed Casino in the Park party on Tuesday night. 

Tom DeGise

The Hudson County executive announced the support for his 2015 re-election of state senators Brian P. Stack (D-33) and Nick Sacco (D-32). The support makes it difficult for a challenger to outflank DeGise.

Eric Jackson

Walker Worthy won’t endorse his former rival in the Trenton mayoral runoff, but those prominent Mercer County Democrats who backed Worthy, will – including Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes. Jackson faces a June 10th runoff with Paul Perez.

Gary Schaer

The 36th District assemblyman, chairman of the Assembly Budget Committee, raised $101,000 at a successful fundraiser at Graycliff this past Tuesday.

Douglas Placa

The new executive director of JNESO District Council 1 (IUOE) and his wife Carolyn had a son this week, Lucas Max-Joseph. The former McGreevey staffer who served as Chief of Staff to Labor Commissioners Kevin McCabe and Al Kroll has been with the union since 2010, and recently became its Executive Director, representing thousands of members in New Jersey in Pennsylvania.


Chris Christie

The governor could not live up to his end of the pensions bargain struck with Democrats in 2011, as the budget crisis-hounded Christie announced his proposal this week to short $2.4 billion in payments to the state pension fund.

Victor Coca

Feds arrested the owner of a local contracting company this week and charged him with bribing a fire official to eliminate more than $8 million in fines on buildings with outstanding fire code violations.

Bill O’Dea

DeGise made harder the Hudson County freeholder’s pathway to the county executive’s chair this week when he announced the support of both Sacco and Stack.

Kirk Eady

A federal grand jury this week indicted the deputy director of the Hudson County Correctional Center for allegedly illegally wiretapping fellow employees. Eady ate one count of intentionally intercepting the wire, oral or electronic communications of others.

Bergen County

North Jersey Republicans lost a staunch advocate this week with the death of Clara Nibot, a Cuban dissident, past president of the Bergen County Hispanic Republican Organization, and inspiration to a generation of aspiring Hispanic politicians.


The Union County community this week mourned the loss of Councilman Randy Sandifer, councilman from the 3rd Ward and detective with the Jersey City Police Department.   Winners and Losers
