At Newark unity party, Jersey City-based Hudson freeholder candidate says Fulop’s support of diversity key part of Dems’ future

NEWARK – In the midst of an exuberant post-election Unity Party in downtown Newark last week, Hudson County Freeholder Third District candidate Gerard “Gerry” Balmir Jr. underscored his belief that his main political ally, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, is a big backer of a key concept for Democrats: diversity.

“The Democrats truly champion diversity, and diversity is the future of our party,” said Balmir, who triumphed over incumbent Hudson County Freeholder Jeff Dublin in last week’s Democratic primary fight with the support of the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO). “I’m proud that Steve Fulop supports both hard work and diversity.”
