The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 today endorsed Republican businessman Tom MacArthur in his bid to become the next representative of the 3rd Congressional District.
Victorious last week over former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan, MacArthur is running for the seat currently occupied by Rep. Jon Runyan.
MacArthur will face Burlington County Freeholder Aimee Belgard, a Democrat, in the general election.
“We’re endorsing Tom MacArthur because of his record as a businessman who successfully grew a small company into a large one, and provided his employees with the opportunity to build a better life for themselves and their families, as well as for his vision of economic development in South Jersey,” said Greg Lalevee, Business Manager of IUOE Local 825, which represents 6,500 operators statewide.
MacArthur said his top priorities include restoring and rebuilding infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Sandy, and protecting the future of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
“New Jersey taxpayers send more money to Washington and get less back than nearly every state in the nation – that needs to change,” said MacArthur. “We need to restore fiscal responsibility and sharpen spending priorities as part of an overall strategy to create economic opportunity and grow our economy.”
