New York gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino’s campaign described their candidate’s fundraising trip to Aspen last night as a success – even if they will not be depending on the chairman of the Republican Governors’ Association, Gov. Chris Christie.
“The Aspen trip made it clear that governors from around the nation will be helping County Executive Astorino become Governor Astorino,” said Jessica Proud, spokeswoman for Astorino for Governor. “It also made it clear that RGA Chairman Chris Christie will not be among them. We can live with that and we will move on.”
PolitickerNJ asked the campaign if Astorino met with Christie last night as was his intention.
Yes, the campaign replied, “very briefly.”
The Republican running against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier this week called for Christie to step down as RGA chairman after the New Jersey governor dismissed Astorino’s candidacy as a lost cause.
At the RGA event in Aspen last night, Astorino tweeted out a picture of himself posing with Texas Gov. Rick Perry, whom he identified as a friend.
