Androgyny Is the New Black in Jenny Lewis’ Star-Studded New Music Video

Guys are a drag

Breaking News: Kristen Stewart has finally found her calling. I know, I too have been on bated breath, but I can assure you the day has come proven by her rollicking performance in Jenny Lewis’ latest music video One of the Guys. The  single is the first from Lewis’ newest album The Voyager, set to be released July 29th. The video features Stewart, Anne Hathaway and Brie Larson flanking a rainbow-clad Lewis strumming a catchy but melancholy ballad about the plight of trying to be “just one of the guys.”

The threesome first appears in all white while pretending to play instruments and lasciviously lip syncing directly to camera. Hathaway and Larson kind of seem like girls dancing around their room at a sleepover but Stewart is clearly in her element, using her infamous aloof stare to actually pull off the whole rockstar thing. To illustrate just how hard they try to fit in with the guys, the ladies appear in drag donning Adidas track suits and bushy mustaches, another look Stewart totally pulls off. Whimsicality ensues as the ladies imitate boyish behavior while Lewis strums a guitar that looks like it was designed by the creators of the Carebears. Though there are a few cringe-inducing moments throughout this video (Anne Hathaway, stop looking at me like that!), I can’t hate it. I tried, but eventually surrendered my judgements and delighted in the tomfoolery.

The only thing better than Kristen’s fun, devil-may-care performance is perhaps the moment you realize Anne Hathaway is sporting what has to be a Rodrigo Palacio inspired rat tail.
