Louise Blouin has had a rough go of it. Since the start of the year, she’s moved the headquarters of her media empire, battled lawsuits from former employers, put her penthouse on the market and most recently dealt with a shutdown of Louise Blouin Media’s news website.
And now Ms. Blouin—who, through Louise Blouin Media, controls Modern Painters, Art+Auction and Blouinartinfo.com—has drawn the ire of former employees and freelancers halfway around the world, in India. In an email obtained by Gallerist, a nine-deep contingent of ex-Louise Blouin Media staffers has announced a new coalition that is, if this email is indeed legitimate, apparently protesting such matters as delayed wages and erratic firings. They’ve asked other workers who have been involved with the company to join them in a five-city protest in India, and a global protest online. The protest is planned for later today.
“We are not just [a] few Indian victims. They are victims world wide,” the opening salvo of the call to arms reads. “LBM’s management has learnt a trick of divide and rule and this should no more be the case.”
