Joan Bramhall missed by Morris County Library Foundation

As a Morris County Freeholder, the late Joan Bramhall established the Morris County Library Foundation.

The former Morris County Clerk who died earlier this month, Mrs. Bramhall knew it was appropriate that taxpayers contribute to the creation and upkeep of the library, but that the enhancements that make the library a special place in our community come from the generosity of residents.

“Joan Bramhall made her vision a reality, by making sure that the Morris County Library Foundation supported activities necessary to make a good library great,” says Bud Jones, acting president of the Morris County Library Foundation.

When Mrs. Bramhall made her periodic appeal to the community to support the Foundation, she would always remind them thatFine libraries exist with public funds – but it is through private funds that they are able to flourish.”

Ms. Bramhall was particularly interested in making the children’s programming at the library second to none, saying, ”Our children are our future and we must work to ensure they have the proper resources they need to thrive.”  The Foundation also offers special support to those with disabilities, or engaged in job searches.  Another focus is the arts, bringing concerts, authors, storytellers and children’s theater to the Library.

Under her leadership, the Morris County Library Foundation raised well over $100,000, receiving no government funds and relying solely on the generosity of the community. As a Board Member of the Library Foundation, Mrs. Bramhall served until becoming President Emeritus and was honored in May 2013 by the Foundation for her community leadership.

Joan’s contributions made a direct and lasting impact on the people in our community, today and for generations to come.  Her loss is devastating for those who loved her, and especially for the community that she loved so much. She was a dear and trusted friend to me, my husband and our two girls and was a personal mentor to me.  The continuing success of the Foundation was made easier because it was attached to her good name.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Joan and John’s family.” said family friend Joan Bedrin Murray, who succeeded Ms. Bramhall as library foundation president.
