Sources: Fox to be new DOT commish

TRENTON – Gov. Chris Christie danced with Jaimie Foxx, but he wants Jamie Fox’s moves.

Former McGreevey Department of Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox of Lambertville will return to the job, replacing James Simpson as Christie’s new Department of Transportation commissioner, according to three sources.

A Democrat and principal at the New York lobbying firm Fox and Shuffler, Fox was chief of staff to former U.S. Sen. Bob Torricelli.

From 1999 to 2001, he served as the Executive Director of the Democratic Senatoral Campaign Committee (DSCC) – a Torricelli hookup.

In 2003, then Gov. Jim McGreevey appointed Fox as chief of staff to the Governor, a position he held until McGreevey’s resignation in November 2004. Following McGreevey’s resignation, Fox became Deputy Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where he served until July 1, 2007, in order to become a private consultant.

Fox will, of course, have to go through the process, but sources anticipate Christie nominating Fox today, followed by a speedy confirmation by the Senate.
