Sen. Diane Savino had to backpedal this morning after a Facebook post in which she chewed out bikers who leave their assigned area of the road was picked up by the Daily News. She was reacting to an article about a cyclist who killed a pedestrian in Central Park last week.

After first commenting that red light cameras should be installed in bike lanes, Ms. Savino then unleashed a profanity-laden screed against the two-wheeled terrors.

“I just scream at them out the window of my car,” Ms. Savino wrote. “Quite a site(sic) when I yell ‘Hey, find a fucking bike lane and get in in it.”

Ms. Savino told the Daily News that her remark was a joke, but that the issue still stands.

“Minimally, there’s got to be greater enforcement,” Ms. Savino said. “We just went through the whole process of reducing the city speed limit to 25 miles an hour, unless it is otherwise posted. That should apply to bikes as well. We are all in this together.”

Ms. Savino’s boyfriend, Senator Jeff Klein, has had his fair share of run-ins with bikers as well. One of them, Colin Beavan, even wrote Mr. Klein an open letter describing the incident.

“You rolled down your window and said, ‘Get your hands off my car, you fucking asshole,’” Mr. Beavan wrote.
