This week most of the art world may have its eyes on London for Frieze Week, but news is still rolling in about Art Basel Miami Beach’s programming. The fair (which will set up shop December 4-7) announced today that this year’s Kabinett section will feature 27 galleries and artists chosen to present separate curated exhibitions.
There’s a lot to look forward to, but here are a few highlights: Van Doren Waxter Gallery is bringing examples of Joseph Cornell’s found-object collages. Kavi Gupta Chicago/Berlin will show new bronze pieces by Mickalene Thomas based on the life of her mother. Galerie Lelong will exhibit Lebanese-born Etel Adnan’s landscape paintings of Mount Tamalpais.
Look forward to works on paper by Leon Kelly at Francis M. Naumann Fine Art, as well 34 drawings by Miriam Cahn at Galerie Jocelyn Wolff. Bringing sculpture, Lehmann Maupin will display Teresita Fernandez’s reflective nylon work Rorschach (2013-14) and Galería OMR will have an installation by James Turrell. And Robert Wilson’s video portraits inspired by paintings from the Louvre will come from Galerie Thomas Schulte.
This year’s the section will also continue to emphasize artists from South America, with work by José Antonio Suárez Londoño, Paulo Bruscky, Ivan Serpa, Guillermo Kuitca, and more.
