Last weekend, sitting in a Starbucks in Ramsey, was someone who has apparently been engaging in retail politics in recent weeks: U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett (R-5).

The Garrett sighting, reported to PolitickerNJ by a source, came while the six-term Republican incumbent paused from apparently knocking on doors in Ramsey and Mahwah, municipalities in the northern Bergen County reaches of the Fifth Congressional District.

Garrett’s challenger in CD 5 is Democrat Roy Cho, an attorney who lives in Hackensack. According to a Monmouth University poll released earlier this week, Garrett holds a narrow 48 percent to 43 percent lead over first-time candidate Cho. Garrett won reelection by a 12-point margin two years ago when the presidential election topped the ticket.
