ROCHELLE PARK – Asked point blank by PolitickerNJ if he thought that state Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-37) would make a good state Senate President, current Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3) dodged the question slightly, yet kept the door open.

“Loretta Weinberg would make a good whatever she chose to do,” said Sweeney on Tuesday after appearing at a roundtable on domestic violence at the Center for Hope & Safety in Rochelle Park with Weinberg, who laughed in the background as she heard the question asked. “Listen – she’s my partner now.”

Sources have told PolitickerNJ that state Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-36), a Sweeney ally, is confident that he will be named state Senate President if Sweeney decides to run for governor in 2017. But Sweeney still expressed interest in his present position.

“I see myself being the Senate President for the foreseeable future, and Loretta as my Majority Leader,” said Sweeney. “And since I’m 55, I’m not done yet.”
