For those wishing to get creative with the new .nyc domain names, you might run into a bit of trouble–at least if you’re looking to dedicate a website to former Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The New York Post reports that a law firm representing Mayor Bloomberg bought over 400 domain names to protect his image.
According to DomainNameWire.com, some of the taken addresses are pretty standard, such as officialmikebloomberg.nyc or bloomberggiving.nyc. But others assume negative attacks on the former mayor. There’s the straightforward MrBloombergSucks.nyc and BloombergBlows.nyc, and also some more personal ones dealing with Mayor Bloomberg’s physical appearance. Allegedly the title bloombergistooshort.nyc was also purchased.
According to the official purchasing website for these domains, .nyc domain names range in price from $25 to $40 annually.
A spokeswoman for the mayor told The Post in a statement that, “This appears to be overly aggressive legal due diligence. We’re only keeping the straightforward addresses.”
At present, bloombergistoolittle.nyc is still available.
