In a closely watched county contest, incumbent Republican Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio and his running mate, former Freeholder Mary Ann O’Brien, beat back their Democratic opponents tonight.
Garganio and O’Brien defeated Democrats Mike Schmidt and Tom Pullion.
“The residents of Burlington County sent a clear message to the North Jersey bosses – go home,” declared Burlington County GOp Chairman Bill Layton. “Your message of higher taxes and spending are not welcome in Burlington.
“Tonight we won in spite of Steve Flops’ efforts that hurt Democrats in Burlington County,” the chairman added.
The “Flops” reference was to Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, who helped finance the efforts of Schmidt and Pullion.
