For years I have returned regularly to this short post by John Lidwell-Durnin on life lessons from Melville’s Bartleby the Scrivener, most notably the fact that, “We must cultivate a relationship with inactivity, and not become disoriented or panicked at how unlike work, or being at some task, our leisure actually is.”
