Welcome to Twitter, Canada!

Please no #JustinBieber tweets.

Wondering why New York is getting pummeled by snow for the first time this season? Maybe it’s because Canada joined Twitter today.

As Betabeat’s resident Canadian, no recent #tech story has warmed my heart quite like this one. If it’s not adorable enough that it took until now for Canada to discover Twitter, just look at how predictably cute and friendly their first tweet was:

.@Canada's now on Twitter, eh! pic.twitter.com/OQAAYohuwL

— Canada (@Canada) November 26, 2014

OMG look, they’re even getting the hang of hashtags:

.@Canada will act as a shop window for everything that makes Canada the best country in the world #DigitalDiplomacy

— Canada (@Canada) November 26, 2014

The account is already fast approaching 15K followers, and we expect that number will greatly increase throughout the rest of the day (because Canada is the best, obviously).

I’m looking forward to a constant stream of tweets about Tim Hortons, obscure winter sports, the correct spelling of “favourite,” and general politeness.
