AC Freeholder Board passes resolution opposing casino aid bills

The Atlantic County Freeholder Board tonight unanimously passed a resolution opposing the Atlantic City relief package bills championed in the legislature by Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3) and Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo (D-2).

PolitickerNJ reporter Chase Brush reporter noted earlier this month that the Mazzeo/Sweeney bills  “are aimed at alleviating some of the city’s financial problems — exacerbated recently by a decline in its cash cow casino industry — by granting the city’s casinos tax breaks, stabilizing its property tax base and ensuring casino workers have health care, and redirecting money to pay down city debt, among other things.”2014-Board-of-Freeholders_1

The nine freeholders (seven Republicans and two Democrats) agreed that the county requires tax equality for everyone, not just the beleaguered casinos.
The resolution included the support of Freeholder Will Pauls (standing, far right) – a labor leader running for the Republican nomination to oppose Mazeo in next year’s general election.

Freeholder Colin Bell (standing, third from right) specifically called out Governor Chris Christie, saying the governor needs to be involved in the issue.
