We were pleased to hear this morning that Peruvian artist Andrea Canepa (one of our booths to look for at this year’s fair) has won the 2014 Pulse Prize. The prize is given each year by organizers of Pulse Contemporary Art Fair to an artist exhibiting in a solo booth at the fair, and includes a $2,500 cash prize.

Showing with Rosa Santos Gallery of Valencia (booth A1), Ms. Canepa’s untitled hanging flags caught the eyes of just about everyone who visited Pulse this week, greeting visitors just as they walked through the front doors. Pieced together from the flags every South American nation, they create a unified representation of the geographic region.

Some other nominees for this year’s include Genevieve Chua with GUSFORD | los angeles, Jennifer Dalton with WINKLEMAN GALLERY, John Mills with Rosamund Felsen Gallery, Ken Matsubara (MA2Gallery), Maya Hayuk with CC Gallery, Mia Rosenthal with Gallery Joe, and Natalia Arias with Nohra Haime Gallery. Previous winners are Hassan Hajjaj, Duke Riley and Cristina de Middel.
