Lopez drops out of LD15 convention

Potential LD15 assembly candidate Lance Lopez, president of PBA Local 105, won’t participate in the Democratic Party’s LD15 convention in January.

“I strongly believe in democracy and the democratic process in which this country and state was built upon,” he said in a statement. “While I understand and respect the process of picking a successor in Legislative District 15 to Congresswoman-elect Watson Coleman’s Assembly seat, I have come to the decision to withdraw my name from consideration at the 15th Legislative District Convention.”

Lopez has not ruled out competing in a Democratic Primary.

In November, he formed an exploratory committee to determine if he would seek the vacant seat previously held by Congresswoman-elect Bonnie Watson Coleman. Despite his decision to skip the convention, the exploratory committee will remain open and active.

As of now, Mercer County Democratic Chair Liz Muoio is the sole declared candidate for the LD15 seat.

Like Lopez, Mercer Freeholder Sam Frisby has also established an exploratory committee.
