With her fresh face and penchant for whites, bright colors and florals, Lauren Santo Domingo brightens the red carpet on even the dourest of days. No NYC style list would be complete without her. (Photo via Getty)
Taylor Swift at the Met Gala, May 5
Ms. Swift wore this Oscar de la Renta gown to the Met Ball in May. By about September, it had become clear that this was the Year of T. Swift. The novice New Yorker's classic aesthetic is reminiscent of Jackie O's days overlooking the park, and brings to mind a type of NYC style long forgotten after years and years of residents trying to out-edgy each other. Allison Williams at the Emmy Awards, Aug. 25
This was the year New Yorker and Girls star Allison Williams truly came into her own fashion-wise. We expect big things from her for the 2015 awards season. (Photo via Getty)
Sarah Jessica Parker at the Met Gala, May 4
SJP shut it down with this homage to Oscar de la Renta, who dressed her often, in May. The dress was classic, 1940s New York, but also allowed Ms. Parker to humbly turn the attention back to the designer, which is where one might say it belongs at fashion's biggest event of the year. De la Renta died several months later.

Blake Lively at the Angel Ball, Cipriani Wall Street, Oct. 20
Since being perfect at everything she tries is kiiiiind of her thing, it's no surprise that Blake Lively totally owned maternity style this year. Every time she hit a red carpet with her bump in tow, her look spawned a thousand blog posts. (Photo via Getty)
Mindy Kaling at the 2014 Glamour Women of the Year Awards, Nov. 10
Ms. Kaling stood out at this particular event because in a sea of sleek power-gowns, she looked positively effervescent. Her unique dress, designed by her TV show's costume designer, Salvador Perez, brings to mind mid-1960s Valley of the Dolls New York. (Photo via Getty)

The fashion world said goodbye to Oscar de la Renta, L’Wren Scott and its most irreverent commentator, Joan Rivers this year. Still, the show went on, with red carpets awash in ballgowns, shimmer, classic Manhattan black and even crop tops.
