The late state Senator Joe Lazzara served as state senator from 1973 to 1978 and later served as county administrator.
His daughter now is making a run for a freeholder seat with the backing of the Passaic County Democratic Committee.
While a state senator, Mr. Lazzara – a former bakery owner who died in 2011 at the age of 87 – became involved in a controversy involving a pornographic movie, “Deep Sleep,” filmed in Paterson.
According to Mr. Lazzara’s Bergen-Record obituary, the senator’s “large, Spanish-style house on the Eastside was seen fleetingly in the film, which played to full houses at the Willowbrook Mall cinema. Mr. Lazzara was not happy.
“‘I can’t understand how the law permits photography of people’s houses or grounds without permission,’ he told The New York Times. He considered filing an invasion of privacy suit but was advised that such cases were difficult to prosecute.”
