The state 38th Legislative District Assembly bid announcement by Republicans Ed Trawinski and Mark DiPisa on Friday highlights the fact that another GOP Assembly candidate is going it alone: River Edge Councilman Anthony Cappola.
The joint announcement by Trawinski and DiPisa could be seen as an attempt to push Cappola aside.
But Bergen County Republican Chairman Bob Yudin saw the move as just part of the candidate selection process.
“Essentially, all three of them are running alone, although two of them are running as a team. Whoever votes [in the convention] can vote for any of the two,” said Yudin, noting that a LD 38 nominating convention is scheduled to be held in March, the results of which he then has the option to sign off on. “Trawinski and DiPisa are running together because they feel they can be more effective that way. But people can vote for any two candidates that they want.”
