Democrats are actively telling Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-22) behind the scenes that’s it’s time to go, a source told PolitickerNJ.
Those talks are occurring as another chunk got taken out of Stender earlier today and Union County Democrats quietly acknowledge that it’s over for the veteran assemblywoman.
Two potential successors continue to angle for a shot to succeed Stender: Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr and former Rahway Mayor Jim Kennedy.
Yesterday, Union County Chairman Jerry Green said Democrats would jettison Stender if she helped her husband plan an expanded shore house built with Habitat for Humanity funds.
She did, according to that NJ.com story.
Asked at the Statehouse today about whether Stender not resign, state Senator Nick Scutari (D-22) said no.
“You’re innocent until proven guilty,” said the senator, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “A resignation connotes that someone did something wrong.”
