U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8) issued a statement on Saturday in support of U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in the wake of a report that New Jersey’s senior Senator is facing federal charges in a criminal corruption case.
“Sen. Robert Menendez has been a colleague and a friend for many years. We have worked closely together on many issues affecting New Jersey residents,” said Sires, who shares Menendez’s Cuban roots and Hudson County political background, in a written statement. “I will say today as I have said many times in the past at all times I have found Senator Menendez to be hard working and a dedicated public servant.
“Yesterday, the senator and his office made it clear that his actions have been appropriate and lawful and the facts will ultimately confirm that,” Sires added. “I look forward to continuing to work with Senator Menendez on issues of vital concern to our constituents.”
