Admirers of the Christopher Bailey-helmed British company gathered in L.A. last night for a runway show from Burberry (BURBY). All the brand regulars showed including Cara Delevigne and the Beckham family, plus Naomi Campbell, Anna Wintour and L.A. TV star Kiernan Shipka.
Pulling in a sparkling A-list alongside L.A. fashion industry folk, Burberry joins a growing roster of brands who are taking the west coast market seriously. For many years, L.A. was dismissed as fashion-light by the fash-pack, a denim-bedecked waste land where couture was crushed. Despite gossip that the film business is spreading wings and settling in other pockets of the USA including New York and Miami, the city still carries enough collective cash to make designer fashion a lucrative growth area.
Style bloggers and fashion entrepreneurs have put L.A. on the fashion map recently, bringing attention to, for instance, to the personal stylists behind the stars and the industry that revolves around keeping off-duty talent from ruining their images with bad outfits. The Burberry show was a crowning moment, cementing the growing buzz around the L.A. fashion scene.
