Moschino has been selected as the “guest designer” of the twice-yearly Pitti Uomo, showcasing men’s fashion in Florence, Italy. Thus, the brand’s creative director, jeremy scott, will be taking his first stab at menswear under the design house. While the four day event, taking place between June 16-19, usually gives center stage to classically tailored menswear looks, many are anticipating a wacky showing by Mr. Scott. In past years, he has revamped the Moschino’s womenswear collections by playing with kitsch references such as the McDonald’s arches, and even Spongebob Squarepants.
“In Jeremy Scott’s collections, we see the humor, the irreverence, the tendency to explode myths, and the manipulation of pop iconography–all that we knew to be part of Franco Moschino’s spirit and designs,” said Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine. “There is also lots of originality in his work–he seems to have a sort of special-sensor focused on our times–in the way he combines fabrics and materials, especially the finest types, because his designs are luxurious. And that is the reason behind our invitation.”
