Bend the Arc Jewish Action, a national progressive Jewish organization, today launched the first-ever national Jewish PAC focused exclusively on domestic issues.
The initial slate of endorsees included U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-12), who will receive thousands of dollars of support for her campaign from the PAC.
Bend the Arc Jewish Action PAC will leverage the Jewish community’s political resources to support members of Congress and congressional candidates whom it identifies as progressive champions.
“The Bend the Arc Jewish Action PAC will expand the definition of what it means to get Jewish political support,”said Hadar Susskind, Director of Bend the Arc Jewish Action PAC. “Jews are among the most progressive and engaged constituencies in American politics. The way to win our political support is by standing up for issues like marriage equality, immigration reform, racial justice and the rest of the domestic progressive agenda. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman has been a champion of the causes our community cares about most. We’re thrilled to announce that she is one of our first endorsements for this election cycle.”
For today’s launch, the PAC is announcing $200,000 in committed donations to an initial slate of twelve members of Congress. Additional endorsees will be announced throughout the year. The initial slate includes: Keith Ellison (MN-5), Jan Schakowsky (IL-9), Alma Adams (NC-12), Ruben Gallego (AZ-7), Barbara Lee (CA-13), Mark Takano (CA-41), David Cicilline (RI-1), Rick Nolan (MN-8), Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Mike Honda (CA-17), Yvette Clarke (NY-11), and Watson Coleman. The PAC will also provide a vehicle for its donor community to contribute to presidential candidates.
Alex Soros is the Chair of the Board of Bend the Arc Jewish Action, and other prominent donors include Marc Baum, who is Chair of the PAC, Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, and Paul Egerman, Senator Elizabeth Warren’s national finance chair.
“There’s a tremendous hunger among American Jews for a political voice that is focused on their real priorities. Until today, there has been no Jewish PAC focused on domestic issues. That’s why we came together to launch Bend the Arc Jewish Action PAC and support Members of Congress like Bonnie Watson Coleman,” Soros said. “I think this is filling a very important role in the Jewish world and I think it’s filling an important role in the progressive world. This PAC is tapping the political power and resources of America’s Jews and putting them to work for the progressive movement.”
