Assembly to take up resolution condemning Exxon settlement

Members of the Assembly will follow their Senate counterparts in considering their own version of a resolution to condemn the state’s $225 million settlement with Exxon Mobil at their 1 pm session in Trenton today.

If passed, AR242 — a similar version of which was released by the legislature’s upper house earlier this year — would “condemn, and vehemently oppose, the proposed $225 million settlement in lawsuit brought by NJ against Exxon Mobil for natural resource damages at Bayway and Bayonne oil refinery sites and certain other sites in NJ.” The bill is being taken up as part of the 60-day comment period, ending June 6, on the controversial settlement.

Assemblyman John McKeon (D-27), one of the legislature’s most vocal critics of the settlement, is expected to comment on the legislation. Assembly to take up resolution condemning Exxon settlement
