American jewelry designer David Yurman and supermodel Liya Kebede hosted an in-store private shopping event at the label’s new Soho boutique on the night of May 5. Portions of the proceeds were donated to the Liya Kebede Foundation, which advocates for safe motherhood in Africa.
In Ms. Kebede’s home country of Ethiopia, where 90 percent of women give birth unattended, the foundation is working to expand education and upgrade health facilities. Its goal is to reduce the number of pregnancy related deaths and increase women’s access to health care during pregnancy and childbirth.
At last night’s event, dozens of VIP guests mingled with other David Yurman customers to shop for a cause. Attendees included supermodels Constance Jablonski and David Agbodji as well as television personality Bevy Smith.
This year’s partnership between David Yurman and Ms. Kebede celebrates Mother’s Day by donating up to 5 percent of all retail and online sales to the Liya Kebede Foundation from April 17 to May 10.
“Motherhood should be all about great love, hope and possibility. I am proud and grateful for this extraordinary partnership with David Yurman,” Kebede, founder of the organization, said in a press release. “The donations will assist us with the goal of erasing the danger for and helping to save a community of mothers.”
David Yurman’s new Soho boutique is located at 114 Prince Street, New York NY 10012.
