Verizon has arranged to buy AOL (AOL) for $4.4 billion dollars. Since over 1,000 articles have already been written about this—everything from the “How ever will the Huffington Post stay independent anymore” pearl clutching to the boring-as-nail but totally astute programmatic advertising story—every reporter and pundit who wasn’t explicitly told “We have to have something on this, and that responsibility falls on you” dialed-up the cruelty and puns.
