In a sign of increasing intensity in the lead up to the May 12th nonpartisan election, Union City last week zapped North Bergen mayoral candidate Larry Wainstein with an official notice of violation and order to terminate along with a $10,000 fine per week if the business remains in violation.
Wainstein is running against veteran incumbent Mayor (and state Senator) Nick Sacco.
has been caught in a blatant lie regarding the illegal laundromat business he is operating at 3900 Palisade Avenue in Union City.
Last month Wainstein denied allegations that the business operated without a Certificate of Occupancy for over ten years, which is illegal, by claiming that a temporary CO issued in 2002 was sufficient.
“Larry Wainstein’s entire campaign has been full of outright lies and now he has been caught red handed not only endangering public safety by operating an illegal business, but lying about it as well,” said Sacco Campaign Manager Paul Swibinski. “The Order to Terminate issued by Union City is proof that Wainstein lied to the media and the voters and further shows that no one can trust anything Lying Larry says.”
Issued on April 28th, the Notice of Violation specifically says that Wainstein’s business, which he owns through a company called 2909 Investment LLC, “Failed to Obtain Required Certificate of Occupancy.” It orders Wainstein to terminate all violations and fines him $10,000 per week for as long as the violations exist.
Wainstein responded to the Swibinski statement.
“I operate the laundry in Union City not North Bergen for over 13 years,” said the challenger. “I held a press conference in which I produced all my licenses. What i find marvelous is that the mayor of North Bergen is going into Union City to create an issue that has nothing to do with North Bergen. I’m fighting corruptions and half truths. Paul Swibinski gets paid $1.2 million by the taxpayers, but he’s worth it because he’s the best liar I’ve ever met.”
