AirBnb (ABNB)’s latest listing is a special ode to Immigrant Heritage Month, which is being observed for the first time this June.
Today, the company announced the “overnight at Ellis Island experience,” for which a lucky winner and a guest from anywhere in the world will win a once-in-a-lifetime overnight stay on a ship docked in between Ellis Island and Liberty Island on June 29.
“Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty quickly became symbols of freedom and hope for millions of immigrants as they looked to create a new home in a new place,” Andrea La Mesa, Airbnb Regional Director for North America, said in a press release. “Ahead of Independence Day, we’re excited to recreate that sense of belonging and welcome, just as our hosts do every day, in such a historic place.”
The quarters aboard Arabella yacht will be decorated for the ultimate patriotic experience, and the guests will be granted exclusive and private access to the island. An after hours tour of the Ellis Island Grounds and Museum, a “midnight” cruise around the islands and Manhattan, a guided tour of the Statue of Liberty Museum as well as a tour of the guests’ family trees and Ellis roots guided by a genealogist are all a part of the experience.
Finally, Academy Award and Tony Award winning actress Marcia Gay Harden will host the winners for their stay and a specially curated, historically-themed dinner with herself and select VIP guests in the Ellis Island Museum’s Grand Hall.
“Ellis Island holds a special place in my heart as many of my Irish and German relatives came here seeking a better life in America,” Ms. Harden said in the release.
