In a surprising move, downtown doyenne Monya Rowe will be bringing her eponymous gallery to St. Augustine, Florida.
As specified in a gallery email, she will continue to exhibit her core group of artists at her new space, including Larissa Bates, Natasha Bowdoin, Angela Dufresne, Vera Iliatova, Jake Longstreth and Ann Toebbe.
The gallery specializes in intimately scaled contemporary artworks by emerging artists. No further mention was given on the nature or exact location of the new gallery space, nor was a reason for the move specified. Ms. Rowe was not immediately available for comment.
After a short stint in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Ms. Rowe moved her gallery to Chelsea, where the gallery was previously located for close to 10 years. In 2013 she (like many galleries) moved to the burgeoning Lower East Side and set up shop on Orchard Street.
Larissa Bates, Mama Lengua: Mother Tongue, Ms. Rowe’s final exhibition in New York, will be on view at 34 Orchard Street through June 28.
